Elvis International Magazine

Phil Arnold's  Take on the Magazine

In 1981, I came across a copy of Darwin Lamm's "Elvis International Magazine." It was impressive. Slick heavy pages, superb cover photos of Elvis, interesting articles with lots of pictures. My strong reaction was, "I want to write for this magazine."

Being a lifelong Elvis fan, I started writing stories about him. Darwin's magazine looked like the perfect  place to try and get them published.

So, I called Darwin's office and asked him if I could get a copy of the magazine's writer's guidelines. He replied, "We don't have any." That was fine with me. Who doesn't like NO RULES? I mailed one article to the magazine and Darwin put it in the next issue.

Over the next fourteen years, Darwin published more than fifty of my articles in Elvis International. This led to projects where I contributed to three books on Elvis. Thank you, Darwin, you made me a published author.

I should also mention that Darwin did give me some compensation once I became a regular contributor. In the later years, it was checks I could cash but before that, he provided albums, books, VHS tapes, magazines, DVD's 45's, T-shirts, and best of all free front-row seats at his concerts.
